I stand Alone

I stand alone overlooking all people
Concerted eyes see not the daunting numbers
My hands are out-turned, I’m open and bare
Their attention is gathered around themselves
I summon the greatest sights eyes ever saw
With power that capable minds never draw
Merely to strengthen a mind shared by all
That together we may sing a more gorgeous refrain
A tap on the shoulder as my efforts prove vain
“My sister has them as I will have you”
I turn to the woman who leads me away
Into the darkness where I’m asked to stay
I follow, as resting is better than strain
“Come live with me in the darkness, in peace”
My heart is so joyed, I’ve found my domain
I follow, but darkness, with secrets, is clever
My footing falls out as I splash in the darkness
“Don’t leave me now!” as she removes all the solid
“Who are you?” I shout now submitting to the flood
“My name is Apathy. My sister is Ignorance.
There is no way out, just sink in existence.”
Here in the pit I spend all my time
Apathy whispers a sort of runic rhyme
Telling me to stay and forget all the people
Months on months she dominates my mind
And I start to enjoy her teaching her way
My emotions grow strong and I fall in love with her
Till one day I find Apathy has left me
She cannot live with the power of love
Apathy is strong but love counteracts
“You speak only truth, but I know your flaw.
I love you, dear Apathy!” She’d no sister to call
Her spell now broken with my power of contradiction
So I sentenced her to the full extent of law
She’d no power to keep me, so I fled from the mire
Only to find her sister controlling their desire
But I have no power over the minds of them
Like cold sweat, the truth over me has grown
Always and forever I stand alone
