The lie

by Ria   Dec 9, 2004

I dreamt again this night
I dreamt of something strange and worn
There was an illy bright light
Inside that dream, so pale and cold

A great hall, set for performance
A jester miserable on stage
A parody of faded romance
Just wandering around with repressed rage

A princess hiding in the shadows
Gazing intently at a drunk
Lust is a fire in her eyes
She’s learnt, kind lovers never last

The show was almost over
The night it carried on
The singing of a rover
The passion of the gods

The jester’s triangular hat
fell down his face
So he could secretly cry out all of his pain
The show of life was toddling off
In shame

The play was over when the puppets bowed
The lights were off when the audience roared
The flowers were trampled when a million feet left she show
And I cried alone on stage
Left to see the fear’s parade
A restless sea within my sight
A nameless deed marking my pride
A rose to drip the world’s last blood
And leave the stage when all was gone
A flash of a darker light
Shades of mystery within the weary-eyed

Upon the stage there’s darkness
Upon a bed there’s blood
The singing rhymes of madness
Hand in hand in the dark hall
They dance in circles
Round and round
They dance alone

Path to emptiness of heart
Wide before my eyes it lies
True to myself I never was
And that’s the conclusion of deceit
Within my dreams I live
Within my dreams I cry

I’m the princess, I’m the jester, I’m the lie

I don't really like poems like this. I'm not really sure how to explain what I mean by that though.
