The March of the Broken Hearted...

by Kaitlin Kristina   Dec 11, 2004

Broken night,
Slips away, I walk through the darkness,
Alone to stay,
The stars peak,
Only to fall,
The bay swallows and holds them all,
The moon lifts into hollow sky,
For her to wane and every month die,
Choppy waters crash on my feet,
Cold and iced, frigid and deep.
Ghosts of memories trace my path,
Follow behind me with gaping mask,
Each with one candle,
Tears used to ignite,
Lost lovers with flames,
With still only lost sight,
I step forward,
They march on,
In the sand until the dawn,
I lead the parade,
Of empty souls,
Broken shells of the very old,
Walking memories that the Earth projects,
They each walked lonely step after step.
The march of broken hearts,
We walk for our cause,
They haunt the waters,
Never do they pause,
Their cries fall upon deafened ears,
They have and they will for eons of years.
People look past and gaze at the moon,
The stars,
The waters,
But their march will come soon,
Each of us will fall from a heart that has been broken,
That held us safe but let us fall to this ocean,
Your time will come,
As did mine,
So here I am, at the front of the line,
Endless spirits with ignited flame,
Feeding from tears, fallen from shame.

Wow that was a really original poem for such a cliched topic. It takes a lot for something on this topic to stand out, and you have successfully done that, Bravo!
