How did it come to this?

How did it come to this?

Seems I’ve forgotten,
When I last felt safe,
I just can’t seem to recall,
What I lack in decorum,
I make up in face,
Let me talk to the wall.

I know you’re not listening,
No, you don’t hear me,
And this is just the one thing,
That I’ve ever asked for.

How did it come to this?
I gave so much,
Life gladly took,
And then, me it dismissed.
How did it come to this?
Where’d I go wrong?
The smiles are gone,
Is there something I’ve missed?

Looking around me,
Floodgates have opened up,
And out pour all the lies,
And everyone’s drowning,
In the liquid falsehood,
Is this how we all die?

No, I don’t think so,
This can’t be all we worked for,
To give up and let go,
And close all the doors.

How did it come to this?
I gave so much,
Life gladly took,
And then, me it dismissed.
How did it come to this?
Where’d I go wrong?
The smiles are gone,
Is there something I’ve missed?
