Such Is Life

by UM   Jan 10, 2005

The mountain lies
crumbled and worn;
a derelict, left to its slumber.
It has seen many things--
earthquakes, avalanches,
wind, fierce storms.
It is old...
It's life is almost spent.
Once, it was young
standing majestically over all.
Its sharp peak thrust upward,
reaching to the heavens.
Of all the mountains around,
it was the tallest.
It harbored animals,
it was a summer retreat.
But now
it has been worn down
by countless storms,
to little more than a hill.

Once it was a great figure,
now it is gone, only a ghost.
Such is life.
