Who really won?

Here we stand
hand in hand
bold and strong
for this battle went wrong
united we stood united they fell
does any of this ring a bell
we fought for our lives
many souls were lost
in ditches we dived
and at what cost
the war we won
but it still feels
like the war itself
was no big deal
for all the lives lost
in this big old war
makes it seem pointless
yet a little more
times have changed
as i can see
this war did not help anyone
not even you or me
