Daddies

Daddies were there when you were crawling,
they were there when you fell to help you up.
To hold you when you cried,
and to give you a hug,
to let you know he was there for you.
When I got a call saying my daddy was in the hospital,
the first thought that came to mind was “let’s go.”
I wanted to see my daddy just in case he would die.
The doctor told us 12 of 300 people made it through
the surgery my daddy was about to go through.
I did not know what to do with what the doctor had said.
My mom told my daddy
“Heather needs you, don’t leave her here.”
I thank God he made it back to me with just a scar.
I hope he can at last see me get married and watch his grandchildren grow up.
I have no clue what I would do with knowing
my dad was not ok.
The doctor said he had to stop smoking or he was going to be dead.
So each day I hope he stops to save me and him
from having pain that we can not deal with.
Daddies do the right thing to stay as long as they can,
to be with their children, and to watch them grow-up.
I just hope you try to keep your daddy a long time.
