Old Friend

by Dani Ward   Feb 28, 2005

Retching on the ground,
convulsing on the floor,
the image has been burned,
into my mind forever more.
feelings attack us all,
pain at what she feels,
we all come together,
to pray that she heals.
finally all alone,
i trun to my old friend,
stare at his shiny luster,
a hypnotic message it does send.
pick up my little friend,
and stare at his side,
see my vacant eyes,
before he starts to slide.
riding through my skin,
tasting of my blood,
drinking more than ever,
as my eyes turn to mud.
feeling very faint,
my friend falls to the ground,
i've finally gone too far,
and my heart starts to pound.
don't know what to do,
i collapse on the bed,
can't keep my thoughts straight,
and i'm only seeing red.
my eyes open wide,
it was all in my head,
my knife lays harmless,
with not a hint of red.
though i feel bad for Sara,
and for everyone else too,
i won't go back to the blade,
this i will never again do.
he will remain my friend,
but for different reasons now,
for cutting ropes and such,
this is my vow.
