My Water Angel

by Carmen   Mar 24, 2005

That day I was swimming in my pool,
The water making me ever so cool.
I was so content,
Not aware of the horrible news soon to be sent.

My mom came out,
Her lips in a pout,
Tears were rolling down,
Her face turned my smile to a frown.
She looked so very stressed,
Until I found out why, I wouldn't rest.

She told my sister to give Gina her bottle,
And inside she went, so I followed.
She starred at the TV,
And then I could see.

It was the news,
And then I realized I will lose,
They pulled a body out of the water,
Right out of the White River.

I asked her who it was,
She didn't answer, so I started to fuss.
"It was your brother, Carmen.
And now I pay for my sin,"

I started to cry,
While she started to sigh.
"I was so young,"
She said, holding her tongue.
She didn't want to tell me,
Was what I could see.

She suddenly remembered all of the threats,
And now everything she regrets.

My brother had drowned,
His body was all they found.
They were too late,
So death was his fate.

On my tears I choke and strangle,
So goodbye, my water angel.

Tragic loss-closure is difficult to convey
but it seems you have done it here
    emotionally but mature.
