Eulogy for a Pheonix

by Samantha   Apr 20, 2005

Your fiery body flowed gracefully across the sky
As you sang a song that even the most exquisite songbirds could not match
Singing that wonderful, soothingly, mysterious song
You elegantly beat your flaming wings, the rushing wind carried you
Letting your fire-like feathers fall to the green earth

Your body was like the glittering sun setting in the middle of the day
Coming to rest on the silk-like emerald grass beside a fallen oak tree
You gathered limbs for your eternal nest, then took off for a palm tree
You sang a vigorous song and painted a vibrant scene across the sky
As you ascended to the last days of your hallowed life

You landed on the top of a waxy dark green palm tree.
Your body blending into the golden crimson horizon of Hawaii’s seductive sunset
And built your sturdy nest of the supple oak branches for your fledgling
In a short while you suddenly lifted your elegant flaming neck
And cried a ghastly scream that turned into a slight whisper
You burst into a brilliant inferno and burned to ashes, your death well known

After many mourned your disappearance beneath your funerary grounds
An equivalent of you arose from the lifeless gray ashes
It sang a little blissful song of life and cheer
The tiny bird raised its immature neck regally up and cried out once more
Magically, red flame-like feathers materialized on its body, and the small bird took flight
It soared gracefully across the dazzling sky, a living memorial to you, its parent.
