Elegy 001

*an elegy on modernity in vers libre*

close not those gentle eyes, for they have seen the setting sun
and begun to find new life.
your strife, though never recorded or recognized, made you better;
better than anyone could ever ask to be.

you have left the days of swords and kerchiefs. this is a new time:
lights, camera, action. no noble steed for you, good sir knight.
good sir knight? this is the age of modern man. the noble steed has
been replaced.

replaced by Dïckinson’s steed, by that cold steel by which no
classic man could stand to joust.
jousting is passé now. “chivalry is dead, and we have killed it!”
that is what Nietzsche would say if he had been a gentler man.

the age of men is over. now is the age of modernity.
the age of dignity, revelry, and subtlety.
who knew that man’s great fall could be made worse without God?
classic man is dead! there be no two roads.

close not those gentle eyes, for they have seen the setting sun.

    This reads like something in an old Beat nick cafe where people read poems and snapthier fingers. Not saying it is bad but it has that flavor to it. I liked for the most part the style was unique and the message was surpisingly very clear good job...
