THAT BOY

by mayme   May 11, 2005

Lost in a silent stare
No one ever seems to care.
A chip is on his shoulder,
Getting bigger as time slowly goes by,
His grades are dropping; depression is evident
His mother doesn't seem to notice,
She is to busy keeping the family out of the red.

He sits at his desk, alone and helpless,
Wondering what to say,
If one day he should dare.
People laugh and play with emotions
He wishes he could do the same,
But he is trapped in the bondage of harsh words and lies.
It is crushing him at all sides,
He looks for a way out
But isn't sure which way is up or down,
Every turn is am empty tunnel.

No one can hear his screams for helps
They are to consumed in their own lives.
She says he should smile more
But a smile is too hard to force.
No one seems to notice his pain.
They have judged the book by its cover
Gone to the back and read the reviews
No time to go within
Flip the pages one by one.
Then they wonder why he feels so unloved,
Why the realization he there is not enough.

He longs for a compliment, a kind word to ease his spirit,
But to be seen with him makes you blush.
You would rather die that ask if he was OK
To show you care means the end of your popularity.
The quiet one you say, the boy who never talks
He sits in the back of class with his head on his desk.
He gets on my nerves your sure to add,
Throw an insult to a boy you never spoke too.
Then you stand at your locker with a smirk on your face,
With your group of people you call your friends.
You look like an idiot trying to belong,
Trying to fit into a world gone wrong.
