Born Blind

by Sarah Ann   Jun 4, 2005

I always run into the night, hearing a slight breeze
I love to feel the midst of air in between the trees
And I am sorry I can’t see it, but I feel it in my mind
It is not my fault I am like this, for I was born blind

I love the feel of the grass, and how a fire burns.
There’s so much to earth, there’s so much to learn.
Is the sky really blue or is it actually even there
How should I know about it? Or should I even care?

Of all people in the world, my sight God has took
I have eyes I can't use, for both of them won’t look
No one here can imagine how it feels to not see
To be living but not living, that is the only use of me

I love to hear children laughing and playing around
As I would sit and sink my feet into the soggy ground
Everyone can open their eyes to seeing what is best
But my eyes are always closed for it is in eternal rest

I never seen the rain, or the beautiful horizon sky
Never seen my own face, or even seen a person cry
I will not see the world, my eyes refuse to understand
I can close my heart and listen; I need two feet to stand

I have never seen a baby or a husband kiss his wife
I have never seen a teenager enjoying their own life
I love to sit and listen, for I have eyes that have no sight
I can’t see the setting sun for I am blocked out to all light

People see different colors while all I see is black.
I live a life in darkness where there’s no turning back.
I have no reasons to try, and no reason to ever cry.
Picture all beautiful colors, and say my final goodbye.

I can’t watch an ocean sunset or even sit and watch TV
I can’t tell the difference between paper and money
Some people tell me I’m insane and out of my mind.
It’s not my fault I am living like this, for I was born blind.
