Numbers

by Kelly L   Jul 29, 2005

Add another tally mark
'Cause there she goes again
Writing on her skin with that
Sharp and metal pen.
Watch her words with lazy ease
Look at them quickly flow
See the red ink come alive
Bleeding from her soul.
The lines are ever-growing, still
As numbers never stop.
Ten and twelve and ever more
Spread from a single drop.
It started with a single word
A single pang of guilt.
A single line of blood became
A complicated quilt.
Numbers go on forever;
There is no end in sight.
She will just keep on going
'Til there's no more room to write...
