Deadly Slumber

by Dave   Sep 30, 2005

Priest in the vaults of death
cruel bitter dying breath
prospects and horizons gone
with weary steps i move on
forever night loss of sight
leave the dead behind tonight

sleep and death are truly one
in a long trance I slumber on
may I lay in blood and breath
beyond the second birth of death
but there is more then I can see
his darkness is beautiful to me
breaking night loss of sight
raise the dead in graves tonight

what I see I leave unsaid
speak it knowingly to the dead
the hands of time the shocks of chance
blows of death lengthen my trance
imperial halls or open plain
nothing will stop the blackened reign
darkened night loss of sight
feel the dead move tonight

an infant crying in the night
an infant crying for the light
whats the point of human life
the low gray verge of light
the twilight of eternal day
be near me when I fade away
see the light regain sight
the dead will rest tonight

I think this was the best of yours I have read so far. The flow was great. The rhyming did seem a little too predictable and average. But I did like this one alot more then the others. Keep up the good work. =) 5/5

You did an awesome job with this. It was very dark, yet very real. I love how you tie death and sleep together. My favorite line out of this peice is

"his darkness is beautiful to me"

It just caught my eye, and got me engaged into the poem. I also love how you end each stanza with a similar sentence flow, and the poem in itself was very easy to read.

It seemed like a complex maze of darkness, the type that makes u shiver slightly! I liked it.
