Live For Her (Because She Can't)

by flawed diamond   Nov 2, 2005

Sitting by the window
Looking at the butterfly
In her mind she's thinking
Nothing else but "Why?"
Her name is Samantha
And she wants to live
But the fairness of life
To her it did not give
The feeling on the inside
It cannot be explained
An army of 10,000
Cannot shield the pain
It all started with her leg
And it changed her life
What she was told
Cut deeper than a knife
17 years old
Won't make it another year
Because medical science says
It would be impossible for her to be here
And everyday she sits and wonder
"Is this the last day for me?"
Waking up in the morning thinking
"This may be the last sunrise I see"
This is for all of you
Who wants to rush what she is about to go through
Even with your disappointments
She'd take those just to trade places with you
So live for her
Because she can't
Look forward to the heartache
And embrace the romance
Work with the trouble
Deal with the pain
Because she would give all
Just to experience those again
Don't deny yourself the hurt
Of something you think you cannot face
Think of Samantha
She'd give anything to live and experience heartache
Don't wish to die
And she's there wishing to live
Don't dishonor her like that
Never say those words again.

I wrote this poem because I know that a lot of people (especially us teenagers) take our life for granted and wish that our life would end. Sometimes you have to sit back and think about the ones who are dying, the ones who will take your life and accept the burdens if it means they could live. Don't wait until you are in jeopardy of losing your life before you start to appreciate it. Nothing you go through will be tougher than someone your age or younger knowing that they will never experience what you still have a chance to.
