Memories

by Christie   Nov 16, 2005

It's midnight
And the only sound
Is the swaying trees
And crickets on the ground

The stars are shining
The yellow moon above
Brings me back to the childhood
That I had so much loved.

As I lay on the lawn
Looking into my past
The stars twinkled brightly
The moon shone a dull cast.

It reminds me of how things were
How they used to be
Playing shadow tag in the moonlight
Just a friend and me.

I remember living in a dream world
Back when I was young
I used to believe in such wild things
Like making ice cubes in the sun.

I also recall an incident
One of many others,
My friend and I made mud pies
And fed 'em to our brothers.

I remember growing up
Chasing after boys
Forgetting all about our dolls
And all our other toys

Yet though times have changed
We won't forget
Our youthful pleasures and dreams
Playing under those twinkled stars
And in the moonlit beams.

Great poem.So many wonderful images, and the wistful nostalgia of youth you conjour up is fantastic.I like what you are expressing(I tackled a similiar theme in my own piece 'Childhood Lasts Forever').The rhyme scheme is good, a nice natural flow, and the emotions, the memories, yes, the memories....Very well written.
