To Be Free

by A Fallen Angel   Dec 18, 2005

I see my mother slowly slipping away
Not really knowing what's gonna happen the next day
Her laughter is but a fleeting memory
Her smile is something I no longer see

She struggles to survive in this harsh world
Her wings of strength are suddenly curled
She can no longer stand by herself and needs me
So I can be her eyes, so she can see

I am enraged and cry every time she is belittled
No hope, no ground, no center, no middle
She stands by and takes the harsh words
Not fighting back because her mind is with the birds

My mother is slipping further into her despair
And I can't help to make her life more fair
She has worked so hard to give us what she's never had
Struggled and struggled and believes she is horrible and bad

I just want my mom to smile
To feel as if her time and effort are worthwhile
I'll even get down and pray to God with my most important plea
"I want my mom's heart, body, and soul to be free."
