Mothers' Angel

by Sylvia   Dec 27, 2005

Another night, another fight,
Mother and Daughter scream.
"I don't want you to be like him!"
"Stop messing with my dream!"

But then it all gets quiet,
So ends another war.
Daughter listens closely,
Her ear pressed against the door.

Daughter hears Mother's whimpers,
And quiet prayers on what to do.
How much she loves Daughter,
And to keep her heart true.

Mother asked for an angel,
To drape her daughter's mess.
To brush away her fears,
And wash away her stress.

Daughter's eyes leak silent tears,
As she rushes into the room.
Mother gazes at Daughter,
And they are hushed like a tomb.

Daughter climbs on Mother's bed,
And crawls underneath her arm.
"Mother, I'm really sorry,
I didn't mean any harm."

Mother only made her quiet,
And held her against her heart.
Daughter pondered through her mind,
And imagination began to start.

One day, Daughter will grow up,
Get a job and go to school.
Daughter will find someone special,
And, in love, act like a fool.

One day, Daughter will leave,
Move away to her own place.
Maybe a child or two,
With their mother's face.

One day, Daughter will never visit,
Never contact Mother again.
She will be too caught up in stuff,
And neglect her lifelong friend.

One day, Daughter will be called,
And told Mother is sick.
She'll pack her things and leave,
And get there double-quick.

One day, Daughter will rush in,
But she wasn't quick enough on her feet.
When she places her head on Mother's chest,
Mother's heart won't pound a beat.

The beat in Mother's heart,
Vanished from Daughter's ears.
But her stress will not come,
Nor will her darkest fears.

Because Mother asked for an angel,
To be by Daughter's side.
And she continued to pray for one,
Until the day she died.

Mother is Daughter's angel,
Protecting her like Mother wanted.
No longer scared or frightened,
No longer teased or taunted.

Daughter opens her eyes,
Her head on Mother's beating chest.
Daughter cherished Mother more then anything,
And loved her more then the rest.

Mother prayed for an angel,
Daughter prayed for one too.
To keep Mother smiling,
In everything she had to do.

To clean away her worry,
And heal her emotions inside.
Daughter was Mother's angel,
Her joyful smile by her side.
