In Candlelight Glow

by NannO   Feb 7, 2006

I remember how we used to dine
in candlelight glow
the way that they swayed
and danced in its shadow

music in the background
love in our hearts
a magical evening that
ends before it starts

eyes full of words
stories unspoken, left untold
we promised forever
till we both grew old

we only needed candlelight
so that we could dance
we spoke about the present
and of future plans

time flies by so fast
in candlelight glow
and every second is worth
more that you could ever know

but then one day you didn't
show up for our date
didn't think much of it
thought maybe you were running late

but as I watched them shorten
those candles of eternal flame
I started to worry
and who am I to blame?

I listened to your excuses
your apologies I accepted
each time you failed to show up at my door
your distance I resented

something in you had changed
but my candlelight never died
I still had some hope in my heart
this is how hard I've tried

I guess time broke me down
couldn't keep fighting for you
I guess you just forgot
that love takes two

with eyes full of questions
I asked you what went wrong
and you just simply answered,
"With you I don't belong."

"I'm sorry," you said
as you walked out my door
"I'm sorry, but I just
don't love you anymore."

that night I spent alone
watched my candles as I cried
and a tear dropped on the flame
that night, my candlelight died
