A Moment At Best

by The Fly   Feb 12, 2006

The times of grief and work and toil.
My life strewn across the fields of soil.
I'd at once wished to just fade away,
And soar the Sky's like a bird one day.

Tears that were shed were quite unreal.
Like a river washing away these fields.
Such pain, unbearable, at least.
My heart shrunken, and near deceased.

All of life has been shattered, and rest.
It only took a moment at best.

One crisp and cool early autumn day.
I was watching the children in the fields at play.
When I seen someone walking up along the road,
Heading towards me in my humble abode.

A light shone brighter than that of the sun above.
Her eyes glowed at me, and I fell in love.
We'd spend so many days just chatting away,
And laughing and joking in the games we'd play.

All of life had been shattered, and rest.
It only took a moment at best.
But suddenly without word, I have been blessed,
And it only took a moment, yes one moment at best.

When I thought things were going so swell,
You left me standing alone, and i wasn't well.
From one another, we somehow drifted apart.
And i was left on my own, with a broken heart.

The times of grief were greater than that of before.
The pain unbearable and my life strewn more.
I don't understand, what happened to the sun?
The sun, that light, that made us as one.

All of life has been shattered, and rest.
It only took a moment at best.
Just when i thought my life had been blessed,
It was taken away, in a moment at best.
Now I'm alone and standing depressed,
With a shattered heart within my chest.
The beginning of life was shattered, and now rest,
And with no time at all, it took a moment at best.

People change, and times grow old.
Day into night, and warm into cold.
Not a life time to take; I wouldn't have guessed,
That it only takes a moment, a moment at best.
