Stranger in the Night

by Elizabeth   Mar 17, 2006

The silence of the room stood
Her heart beat could be heard
Pounding her down in the ground
Away from the embarrassment of life

What had happened lately?
Why do these things happen?
Who could want this for her?
When would the pain cease?

The breath of another on her ear
Telling her to follow them
Saying everything will be all right
She just needed to trust

How could she trust anyone
When even God had let her down
Who was this stranger
She swore she knew his face

He took her away from the faces
Her eyes hurt from the tears
He wiped her face with a towel
Trying to calm her fears

She looked at him again
Saw his knowing eyes
He smiled and said "You'll be fine"
Who was this familiar guy?

Was it the one she had loved?
The one that had let her down
Was she wrong about him?
She had to know his name

She tried to ask over her tears
But nothing came out
He looked at her and said
"Don't worry, I'm here now

"I know I wasn't here before
I know you thought I didn't care
But everyday my love grew for you
And I am always here"

Could this be the guy?
The guy that caused her pain
Could she trust him now
After all her strain?

He put her in his car
Drove her home safe
Helped her into bed and tucked her in
Then looked her in the face

"Sleep tight my angel
If theres anything you need
Call me and I'll be there
Now sleep in peace"

He walked out of the room
Disappeared into the night
It was then that she realized
God had never left her side
