Dad

You were taken from me too soon, leaving a broken life behind
But you didn't leave alone because along with yours he took mine
Even though told differently by all, I know that I'm not mistaken
Unknown to everybody, on that day at lest two souls were taken
Ever since, with every single breath that I have been forced to give
I'm reminded that it's one more, without you, that I'm forced to live
Because of your absence I've been rendered useless
A void remains that can never be fully replaced regardless
I'm an empty vessel unaware of this thing that they call life
And without my soul I'm simply blind to the sight of the light
My mind wont allow my thoughts to venture anything besides my mortality
So now memories are all that I have to remind me of how you used to be
With all these years, all my shed tears have left me even more hollow
But even so, tears, thoughts, and memories, are all that I have now
Even though it's these very things that are slowly tearing me apart
They will now and forever be all held close and dear to my heart
