Family Comes First (Family Collaboration)

by Kenshin   Apr 26, 2006

*this is a collaboration between me and cousin, I started the first stanza and Nada did the second one and so on and so forth*

Fruits rotten to the core,
Earth turned to dust,
Tell me what a farmer can do
When all his land is dust?

Beneath the dust there is another soil,
The Earth revolves around,
Renewing that what has been lost,
A farmer's life is never ended by a fire.

Why are you always so strong?
Though beneath you're always alone,
Why don't you ever accept that sometimes,
We're can't find hope in things that are lost.

Cousin, you taught me long ago never to give up,
You lost your sister to the gasoline,
Did that destroy you when you were young?
Or did it only strengthen you when you became older.

I have not seen my sister,
Only heard of her,
Father always thought you were like her,
That she'd grow up to be like you.

Cousin, I am not the top notch girl anymore,
I, too, have seen horrors beyond the family scope.
I've seen cold eyes filled with desire,
Blood shed with no regret.

Why do you always have to suffer?
Why can't anyone see you in pain?
Living life day by day,
How can you find hope in this world of despair?

Like new seeds in the ground,
Thrown away by its owner,
Some will survive and others will not,
That's the difference between me and you.

But you were always there for me,
Never gave up on me like everyone else,
I showed you nothing but harm and sadness,
Why do you still love me and help me.

Cousin, we are family,
And family comes first,
I do not care about your past,
But the future is what you truly need to stay focused on.

Family always comes first,
That is what grandpa always taught us,
No matter how much harm that comes from them,
We should always stick together as family does.

We should never allow our differences to change who we are,
We should always allow what is best for the family to come first,
Isn't it a blessing? That the one thing that grandpa taught us,
Is the one thing that kept us alive through the years?

Family comes first,
Like the earth's soil,
Even if fire hits it,
It shall always be renewed,

Family comes first,
Like the seeds in the ground,
Even if there is not much attention,
They rely on one another to grow strong.

Family comes first,
Even though you are harmed,
How can people harm the angel?
That has kept this family together.

Family comes first,
Even if it kills me,
People cannot see,
What they cannot understand.

Great poem - I think the collaboration worked well. Thoough there were a lost of changes through form, it started off as a poem, and gradually became a conversation, before turning back towards being more of a direct poem again. However, tis did not even scratch the quality of the poem. It was incredibly well written by two obviously talented people.

We're can't find hope in things that are lost.

I think this would make more sense as We can't find . . .

    Peace. [Sole]

This was so uniquely written. I'm glad that some writers can still write stories about things that matter--The values that won't be lost, if people like grandfather continue to pass them on to the next generation.
