Wishing and pretending

Sometimes I wish I could pretend
maybe switch places with someone else
then I realize I would be putting someone else at harm
so I take it back
but what makes me different then anyone else
why is it okay to hurt me
i wish things were more simple
i wish all I needed to wish for was a gum ball or a new pair of shoes
but I guess you dont always get what you wish for
because ive been wishing
except this time for more then just gum
that maybe things will change
and I wont need to pretend
because pretending hasn't got me anywhere
but then again
nor has living..
