I Swear I Will

I know I have to tell him,
and I swear I will.
I just need a little more time,
so can you please chill?

I know I haven't got long
to show him how much I care.
I'm mentally ticking off the days.
He'll know before he leaves here.

Are you trying to make me feel guilty?
I feel bad enough as it is.
It's hard to cope with saying goodbye.
Do I need to shed any more tears?

I know I joke with you about it.
It really is quite funny
the way I shy from telling him,
but this is too raw for me.

It hurts so much
loving him this way,
hiding behind the cloak of friendship,
longing to speak words I can't say.

But I'll snap out of it.
I'll tell him how I feel.
Just let me do it my way,
and I swear I will.
