Fatigued Eyes

by Poetically Speaking   May 15, 2006

I wrote this and It's from experience. I'm in the service.

These feet have felt so many steps,
boots welded to army green socks.
These shoulders have held up so much,
ruck sacks unpacked at so many stops.

Once smooth hands now grip rusty black rifles,
and fingers that once graced womanly skin,
now slowly squeeze on loaded triggers,
and bounce back with force like metal sin.

These eyes, green like my fatigues,
they've seen so much in so little time;
my eyes don't feel like they belong to me.
And I ask myself if they will ever again be mine.

    Hey, i have a close cousin in the army, and he always talks about not believing everything that he has seen, and not believing that it was actually him doing all the things that he had to... to hear some one turn it into a poem like this really means something.
