Never Know

by Hilary   May 28, 2006

Thinking back on memories,
Of all my yesterdays...
The promises made and broken,
The things I did or did not say...
The vows of "friends forever,"
Times when work seemed far away...
When cooties were my biggest fear,
And I begged the daylight to stay.

Now, it seems, life has begun,
With stresses and denial...
Hoping to get through one day,
With a true and honest smile...
Knowing, now, that life is short,
And today may be our last...
That tomorrow our friends may wake up,
And we'll be a figment of the past.

You cant assume that tomorrow will come,
You never know where life will lead...
When sticks and stones don't break bones,
But words will make you bleed...
You gotta hold your loved ones close at heart,
And share with them your words -
Sometimes the simplest "I love you's,"
Are the best words ever heard.

Children dying before their time,
Parents wondering why...
Grandparents dying and leaving their kindred,
To sit back and cry...
Don't take life for granted -
Hold on to your families and your friends...
Look back on those you've always loved,
You never know if you'll see them again.
