Self Reflection

by Nathaniel   Jul 13, 2006

What do I need?
I need to feel.
To feel this life,
That seems so unreal.

I wake up tired,
And go to sleep wide awake.
I feel my life's choices,
Have all been a mistake.

Who can I blame,
For this life that is mine?
The man in the mirror
Seems to be doing just fine.

If my insides were out,
Would that be gross?
To see the man
That I hate most.

My passion for life
Is all but asleep.
I've been walking around
Without one single leap.

So, is this it?
The end of the road?
Can I keep on going,
With the weight of this load?

I have so much to live for,
So much to achieve.
So many dreams,
It's hard to conceive.

Can I learn from my past?
Prove that I'm strong?
Admit all my faults,
And tell my loved one's I was wrong?

It's time to stand up now,
And take my command.
In charge of the life,
That was placed in my hand.

So what have I learned
From this little self talk?
Is that life is short,
So leap, don't walk.

    Nathaniel --
This poem had a kind of vague intent ;; but after reading it a couple times, I was able to tell exactly what you meant. I think the last stanza is definitely a strongest ;; and a really good way to end such a poem. You did a pretty good job, but I`m going to have to dock you a bit for unclarity. 4/5
