Watching You Sleep

by Melissa S. Masucci   Jul 14, 2006

Lying with you in peaceful grace
watching you in deepened slumber,
moonlight carresses your face, like
the longing of a lost lover.

Time stands still as I watch you dream
content in the world in your head.
Visibile, a smile so serene
as you lie with me in my bed.

No longer can I this deny
I look at you, drunk with amour.
Like a sobering friend, nearby
the world goes on as once before.

Can I reach out and touch so soft
the one I hold so dear, or will
my touch dissolve you, like coughs
lost in the wind? My greatest fear.

Lying with you, this heart of mine
imagines loving no other,
with no other do I align -
my friend, my boyfriend, my lover.
