The Chest

by Mommy And Me   Aug 7, 2006

Folding her legs she glided to the ground
with tear stained cheeks and lips of red she stared into their past
wedding bells and folded pictures filled with memories

off into the corner something caught her eye
a homemade card for their anniversary
and a family picture, made with a daughters love

"mommie please don't cry
daddie won't be long
he went to heaven to get some milk
and told me he'd be back soon
.................love anni"
were the words reaching across the top

clutching the photo tears drowned her eyes
she whispers "Why'd you have to leave?"
and slams the lid shut

she walks to wards the doorway
leaving the old wooden chest
to hold onto her reminiscence

words of broken memories
banished from her thoughts
as she walked through out the house

"mommie please don't cry"
with pretty eyes and bright red lips
she kissed anni goodnight
