The ship pulled into shore

by Krissey   Aug 15, 2006

Their lips shared a passionate kiss, goodbye
She placed the black hat atop his head
He boarded the bus, waved one last time
A tear fell down his cheek as he looked ahead.

They’ve been madly in love for 5 years
He hated leaving her behind
He only regrets telling her every trip
“I promise this will be the last time”

She felt so proud, being the wife of a marine
Her handsome husband was so brave
He loved his country, he was honored to serve
She thought of how much he sacrificed and gave

She just hated those lonely nights though
When he was gone and away
On her calendars were little slashes
Every morning she’d cross off a day

He lived for every letter she wrote to him
It was almost like being back in the states
Reading about their neighbor's crazy cat
And all of his sister's endless dates

She always made him feel at home
Although he missed her on the ships
He missed their late night kisses
And when he’d cradle her hips

She’s been dieing to hear his voice
She’s had to settle for just letters
But with each slash on the calendar
Each day was getting better

She got her usual letter in the mail
With only a month left to go
She had to read the words over twice
Her husband was coming home

She hoped he’d end these long trips
So he wasn’t gone when they had a daughter
She thought about it when she drove to the dock
As her eyes so quickly filled with water

He hugged her tight when he arrived
Eleven months had been too long
They drove home hand in hand
This is where he belonged

That was one of the most exciting days of her life
When the ship pulled into shore
She knew that when they’d get home
Magical love would happen behind their door
