The e-mail

by Krissey   Sep 25, 2006

His wife had been leaving the house for days
She stayed out for hours without telling him
At first he wasn't all that worried
Maybe she was with friends or at the gym

Then at dinner she’d always say
“Baby I have something I need to tell you”
They were always interrupted somehow
He was always left confused and without a clue

Was she seeing another man?
He never believed she could cheat
But there was no other explanation
He was tangled in her deceit

She thought maybe a card would be best?
She was to nervous to tell him to his face
It’d be best to leave him shocked in their own home
He’d still get the news in their own place

She changed her mind and decided on email
She thought it would be a better surprise
When she sat down at her computer and began to type
In the screen's reflection she saw a pair of eyes

She could feel someone’s presence
But she’s been that way since she was young
She’d feel like someone was watching her
In the middle of her having fun

She had a smile on her face when she typed
Then all of a sudden her head hit the desk
Shot in the back, in her house
So surprisingly put to rest

The shooter masked in black, her husband
Walked slowly closer to his beautiful wife
Her words on the screen caught his eye
And he realized he had taken more than one life

“Sweetheart I’m pregnant with our first child”
He read as he looked upon the screen
Tears fell like leaves from a branch
Now he wished it was all a dream
