Daddy's Girl

by Lithium   Oct 20, 2006

When the sirens wale,
Daddy gets out of bed,
Tucks me in,
And kisses my head,

He gets dressed up,
In his red suit and boots,
Hops in his truck,
It goes toot toot,

Every time he comes back tired,
After driving away,
I stay up very late waiting,
But not today,

In the morning I woke,
And had my pretend tea,
Mummy came in crying,
She had something to tell me,

Know you're daddy loves you,
Very very much,
He would have stayed if he could,
To hug you so so much,

He will always be in here,
And she pointed to my heart,
I didn't understand,
That our family lost a part,

A few weeks past,
Daddy did not come home,
I finally understood,
We were all alone,

I wanted to build a ladder,
High as the sky,
Mummy came out,
And asked me why,

I want to go to heaven,
And see my daddy,
He hasn't come home,
I want him to hug me,

She said I couldn't go,
And it was better if I stayed,
So I could fight the fires like daddy did,
He would have wanted it that way,

I went back inside,
And put on daddy's hat,
I knew mummy was right,
I decided that,

So when I grow up,
I'll put on my red suit and boots,
I'll hop in daddy's truck,
And make it go toot toot.
