The Night He Set Her Free

by amber   Nov 14, 2006

A lonely little graveyard
Right outside of town
A little girl sat patiently
Upon the frozen ground

She looked like she was praying
Her little hands in place
I knew she must have been cold
Though it didn't show on her face

She sat between two tombstones
"Beloved Mother and Father"
The little girl sitting beside them
Must have been their daughter

I walked over to her
And knelt down on one knee
She looked into my eyes and knew
But said nothing to me

"Why do you sit here,
Your mom and daddys gone,
Please little girl, it's freezing,
Let me take you home."

The child never moved her body
She just played with her bear
"Although mom and daddy ain't here
I know they're up there,

Mommy and daddy left me,
But they'll be back before too long
The angels will come and get me,
When God wants me home,

Me and my teddy are waiting
For mommy to send them down
So that's why i'm sitting here,
Beside them on the ground."

I looked into the childs eyes,
What else could i do?
I just smiled and gave her my coat
"I'll sit here and wait with you

I stayed on the graveyard ground
Til the morning dawn
I looked down to check on the girl
But i knew she was gone

The angels came and took her
To a land beyond the skies
God had let them set her free
So she'd be by his side

God's children are never left alone
That he promised the world
I believe he kept his promise
The night he freed the girl
