Jamie

by Amy   Mar 25, 2004

When Jamie was a little girl
she dreamed of bigger things
wished she could be like a bird
fly away, grow wings

Jamie used to sit by the window
every single night
gaze out at the stars
and wish with all her might

She wished for her mummy
to finally return
from the place that
they called heaven
it hadn't been her turn

She prayed to god
and asked him
if this wish he would grant
but no reply ever came
she didn't understand

A year later
after her mothers death
her best friend died
and breathed her last breath

She was only 10
and couldn't figure out
why everyone kept leaving her
so shed scream and shout

She tried to look on the bright side
her daddy was still there
but to him she was invisible
it was like he didn't care

As the years passed by in a blur
Jamie grew into a teen
full of anger and hate
sick of believing in dreams

She lashed out at the world
that had taken so much
incapable of emotion
or of human touch

She started to act up
and get into fights
but the fights didn't stop
when she got home at night

Her father demanded
that she do as he said
but she wouldn't listen
so she got punched in the head

He slapped and hit
and this became a regular thing
Jamie remembered how
she had wished for those wings

One day she grabbed a knife
dragged it across her skin
she wanted to let go
of all the pain within

She started to do it
every night
just to ease her pain
it somehow made her feel better
but every day was the same

Her father went too far one day
and pushed her to the brink
she grabbed the knife again
but then started to think

She had tried to be strong
like her mother had said
but it never worked
so by the time morning came
she was already dead

At her funeral
every one cried, cried fake tears
her father was one of them
then had some beers

Jamie and her mother
looked down from heaven above
finally together
and living surrounded by love
