White Rose

by Poetically Speaking   Dec 17, 2006

I gave you 24 white roses,
left them at your door.
I couldn't explain in words,
what they exactly were for.

I've got a single rose left,
sitting in my room.
I kept it locked away safe,
to remind myself it's true.

In return for my rose,
I never ask for more,
than simply wishing,
you'd leave your heart at my door.

I've got a single white rose,
locked away in drawer.
In exchange for your heart,
I'll never ask for more.

I've got a single white rose,
to remind me of my dove.
I gave you 24 of the same,
to remind you I can love.

This would be a very nice starter poem but it lacks something I don't know but it doesn't come off the page. It just seems as if it is flat words, no emotion, even though it's obvious ypu put a part of your heart into it.

Was the extra repition of I'll never ask for more done on purpose? It seems to take the impact away when used more the once. Maybe describe the rose in detail or how much this love means to you. Do not just tell that you keep a rose to remind yourself it's true show that with your words without saying it. Do not say the rose is just white maybe the white color is a symbol for innocence or a quality she reminds you of. Keep writing.
