Just for tonight

I cradle the phone in bed at night
Waiting for the call
The one that helps me sleep at night
The one that stops the tears before they fall

To hear the voice that cheers me up
And brightens up my day
The voice that calms me so i may sleep
In that peaceful sort of way

The call that erases all my troubles
And brings a smile to my face
Knowing you were thinking of me
Before you fell asleep

Usually I just lie awake
For hours at a time
Waiting for that one phone call
To help me close my sleepy eyes

But I'll stay awake a little longer
In case tonight your a little late
Telling myself that tonights different
That this time its not a mistake

But just for tonight I'll get some sleep
Because I'm convinced your not gonna call
But tonight wont be the first night
It never came at all...

Ill turn off the lights and crawl in bed
Ill let the sleepy eyes fall
But ill keep the phone close by me
In case you finally decide to call
