I've Waited, I've Learned

The longest waiting game,
That i ever had to play.
I counted every second,
Every minute, every day.

During this painful period,
It was hard for me to cope.
That you have finally left,
I started to give up hope.

Every once in awhile,
We'd decide to go hang out.
I thought that each time,
We'd date without a doubt.

Nothing ever would happen,
I knew this was a mistake.
Cause every time you'd leave,
And my lonely heart would break.

So time continued to pass,
And other guy's you would date.
I'd hang with other girls,
But I believed in fate.

With all those other girls,
I felt nothing in my heart.
So I'd sit and wait around,
For our relationship to start.

There'd be times that I'd frown,
And times that I'd cry.
There'd even be sometimes,
That I would want to die.

I would look at old pictures,
And more poems I would write.
My memory would refresh,
All the times that we would fight.

All the things I could have done,
But I was dumb and stuborn.
It took for you to leave me,
For me to realize and learn.

I feel that now I've changed,
You'll never know till you try.
I'm glad you understand,
That I should be your guy.

A time I will never forget,
August 13th was the day.
I was lying in your trunk,
And you came to me to say.

"I have something to tell you",
Those were words to my ears.
Happiness all around me,
Driven away were my fears.

You explained how you felt,
I agreed with what you said.
So many emotions,
Running around in my head.

I know that I love you,
This love I promise you'll see.
I just hope that all your love,
You'll embrace and give to me.

I can see into our future,
Your the mom and I'm the dad.
Sharing stories with our kids,
Of good times that we've had.

And all of this will happen,
With decisions we have made.
OUr future growing brighter,
The road to happiness is paved.
