Immortality

by Kim   Apr 4, 2007

Would I choose Immortality?

To never be able to die
Where all experiences would be open to me
And pain but a mild passing hindrance.

Would I choose to stay the same
Exactly as I am
In an ever changing world?

Would I choose to live forever?
Watching all I love perish over time
While I remain, untouched

Would I choose to live without regret?
Outside the boundaries of Time
I can live that precious moment,
Not once, but millions of times!
No consequences for I have eternity to change my mind.

Would I choose to watch
The trees and the oceans and the skies
All fall under the hand of humanity?
Would I choose to witness
Their slow agonizing death
Over not years, but centuries?

Would I choose to actually give you forever?
The two of us, in love, together for time un-ending
While around us the world changes
And slowly slips into the shadows of darkness
Yet we can do nothing but exist....forever

Would I choose perpetual youth
And never fear death or old age?

But it is not death I fear.
A life of wasted moments, a life of unvalued memories, a life of meaningless emotions.
That, I fear.

So would I choose Immortality?

No
For it is the value of Time that lets us truly live.

Kim ... A shot of goosebumps ran through me as I read this poem ...
Why ? Because many people would be selfish and chose to live those moments over a million times ... but it is your ending line that grasps the true beauty of this piece ...
    "No
For it is the value of Time that lets us truly live."

Wonderfully penned with a truth pounding message that leaves me feeling "alive" for
"For it is the value of Time that lets us truly live."
Ahhh I just love that line!

    Take care, my friend
