Read The Sign, Heart Is Closed (Collaboration)

by Melissa   May 29, 2007

It is not my fault
you see, this heart
well, she's got a flicker
of her own
and lately it seems
as if that enormous flame
is out to engulf me

let's face it shall we
I'm a worn out lady
these lips would rather smoke
then be your kissing mat
salty tongues burn out
when a man seduces my attitude
with his own poisoned wine

Those slithering hisses
and tasteless hands
were enough to ignite
the spark within,
but you could never sustain
this here fire
blazing beneath pen's golden skin

paper hearts can be fragile
sweat beads distort pure ivory
rain clouds simply can not purify
my womanly velvet hands
tainting sweet words with promises
cheap candle wax chokes joyful thoughts
run away now, the catacombs are calling

You kinda lost me the first stanza, so i was not drawn in. But since ur poem is number one, i thought i should go on. and i'm glad i did because i thought the metaphors to this old women (if i'm correct) is so perfectly personified. loved it. keep it up
PS: now i kno why its number one
