Where the Wild Roses Grow

It`s said to be a myth, but the truth is hidden,
In this sad story where true love was forbidden.
Each day that passes by, the story grows,
Out beyond the river, where the dark water flows.

She whispers her sorrow to tiny grains of sand,
Of the love she lost, and the life she had planned.
The lighthouse beside her has rotted over time,
A burden she lived with, now covered in grime.

The star of David is said to have led him astray,
In concentration camps, he bowed his head to pray.
A swastika was indoctrinating their beliefs,
As survivors were left behind to run in grief.

She played out his last words inside her head,
Analyzing the lies hidden in what he had said.
She picked apart the lines, piece by piece,
Hoping it would provide her heart some release.

She watched for the fog lights, out on the water,
Holding the memory of their long lost daughter.
Burnt, tied and drowned -- a fate she couldn`t stop,
And she sits, waiting for her to come up top.

Covered in vines, it`s said she still walks,
And under her stingy breath, she talks;
Speaking of riddles in her foreign tongue,
And breathing hell`s smoke in her lungs.

Out by the river, where the wild roses grow,
If you look close enough, you`ll see her face of snow,
A reflection in the water, disappearing fast,
Stumbling through the sorrows of her past.

May be confusing, basically talking about how some races used to think they were superior to others, e.g. Aryans. Because the girl was German and the boy was Jewish, he was sent to death, as was their child...she lived the rest of her life by the water where they were burnt, tied and drowned.

This is beautiful...filled with so much melancholy but at the same time, so beautifully written.

The imagery in this piece is beautifully created, it painted very vivid pictures for me, and your flow is flawless throughout the entire piece.

The message behind the words is beautifully displayed, and that ending, wow. I found it to be very intense and moving.

    Beautiful work on this.
