Help Me Remember [Lyrics]

by HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG   Dec 16, 2007

Headlights dance across the dark walls,
As I lay in bed pretending to be asleep,
And he tip-toes to his side of the bed,
Trying to hold onto his steady breath.
The room goes silent as darkness falls,
And he holds onto me, wishing to keep --
The idea of both of us inside his head,
I ignore the scent of her, as I hold my breath.

Fake smiles have never looked this real,
And Baby, I`m gonna help you feel what I feel,
So close your eyes, hold them shut,
And ignore the feeling settling in your gut.

You built me up, stacked me high on this wall,
And as I hung myself up, I dreaded the fall;
`Cuz the ground was spinning and I was slipping,
Holding the pieces shattered from my heart.

And the clock is ticking away the memories,
Your face is fading away from my mind,
I never thought it would come down to this,
But I can`t run from the truth forever.
I just want one last chance, one more night,
To work together and get this right,
Honey, help me remember what we used to be,
When I was the only one you ran home to.

I spend my days pretending to be head over heels,
But a girl can only be so fake before she breaks,
And I`m tearing apart at the seams,
Just killing myself, killing myself for you.
You packed up your heart inside your duffel bag,
As you slammed the front door on me,
Kept my smile in your back pocket for a rainy day,
And kept me hanging on to this frayed rope.

She`s holding you like I used to do,
And you don`t seem to mind,
But when I thought I needed you,
I found a love of a different kind.

If I close my eyes tight enough, I can make believe,
That just for tonight, it`s you holding onto me,
But I ain`t the same as I used to be, I ain`t naive,
And I`m finally seeing what you didn`t see.

I spend my days pretending to be over you,
But a girl can only run so far before she stops,
And I`m slamming on the brakes, turning my wheels,
Just running back, running back to you.
You kissed her goodbye, said you`d be back soon,
Just like you used to do to me so long ago,
Kept me a secret, snuck around on her,
And kept me hanging on to this frayed rope.

I never saw the light, but it`s blinding me now,
And the day when you wake up alone,
I`ll be waking up to the one who never left me,
And she`ll be walking out the door on you.

So help me remember what heart ache feels like,
Help me remember, help me remember.

A very interesting style for you. Sometimes it rhymed, sometimes it didn't, but despite the structure of this, I really liked it. Your way of wording things is very good. I like how you think things through and you connect the bridge between metaphors and reality. Let me explain...

You packed up your heart inside your duffel bag,

Okay, in that line, he probably really was packing up his bag, but you compared that to the fact his heart was so easy to pack up and take away too. It's just so cool to me how you do that. Anyways, great job!
