My Daddy's Ring

by Emily   Dec 22, 2007

He walked into my room
and handed me a box
I opened it up
as my eyes began to tear.

engraved on it said happiness,
something he promised me
i would always have

the next day i had to leave,
to go back to where i came from
he promised me i could return,
but my hopes of that promise began to fade

months began to go by
as the phone calls came to a halt,
the letters disappeared,
and the emails were no longer

everyday when i thought of my dad,
and how he promised me that happiness,
just made me more miserable
every time i looked down upon my hand
and see that ring, makes me even sadder

yet that ring is still on my hand
to this very day because i hope
that maybe someday the happiness he promised
will come true
