How long does it take you to write a poem?

Days and days and days

if i write something i wont read it for a couple of weeks if it reads well then, then it a poem for me

otherwise its just vomit on a page

Generally it takes me 30 minutes to an hour. Unless I'm feeling some form of really strong emotion then it'll take less time. But then there's editing.

My latest, goes for four pages, took me many hours over 2 weeks. I'd say, 4-5. Needless to say I'm proud of it.

all my best ones jsut flowed out in like 10 mins or so... but there are others that i'd start then couldn't come up with a good enough idea to finish for a couple weeks... it just depends

I'll just write down any line or phrase that comes into my head and then later put it all together. Then sometimes a poem will just flow write out, other times I have to really think and it takes a long time.

Im really quick at writing poems as usually i have the idea in my head, and usually whne i write one i end up writing one after the other all night. if i say i am going to write a poem and dont have an idea it takes me hours to try and make a good one.

To actually write the poem it probably takes 10-20 minutes. If you're including editing and all of that about 30-40 minutes.

I depends on how long the poems is. But since writing for me is a way to "release" my feelings (since i don't like talking to people about my problems) i would say it takes 5-15 minutes..

Most of my poems, i write when i have a sudden rush of emotion : ] the others i will start one day, then finish weeks or even months later. i date them like, january-august 4. it's weird ; P

I dunno..it depends i guess.
sometimes, i write a poem in less than an hour and leave it at that..but other times i take about 2-3 days to finish one poem..i sorta modify it a lot and stuff..and it gets really long. :))

Sometimes words flow in a couple of minutes..
And sometimes I just can't write a single word!

Minutes, hours, days, months.....

From a few days to months. I have to let the feeling seep through so I can "see" the poem clearly, after the original emotion goes away. It's also easier to see the path a poem takes this way. And If I take a very long break from a poem, I come back to it after some weeks/months and make the correct changes.

The amount of time it takes me to write a poem can vary. Sometimes it takes up to a month, but at the least I try to take my time so I dont stop working on it or thinking about it for about probly 30 mins. It also depends on what I'm writing about, like if I'm writing about heartbreaks or pain and stuff like that I can also finsh it a lot faster because I know those feelings really well, but something like true love and stuff that takes a lot longer most of the time.

For me it only takes about a good 5 to 10 mins to wright a poem. But thats only because i had alot of insperation. Some times I'll feel like to wright a poem but i dont know what and that usely takes me about a good day or two to find out what to really wright about.

I usually get an idea then write it improv, sometimes I even write it as I type it on this site. usually takes less than 30 min.

It will take me between 10 to 30 minutes to write a poem but for some poem it will take several hours and for my series I'm doing I have been working on it for now 2 months

I can take anything from 5 mins to a hour i wrote one once when i was waiting for someone to get ready

Woow you guys are sooooo lucky...it sometimes takes me hours to do it...I always make an outline and state what I want to say (I'm very forgetful so sometimes I start a poem...and i don't really remember what i wanted the meaning of the poem to be ^^). so that already takes about 10 minutes...
afterwards it sometimes takes up to 2 hours....but it can also take more if I'm really dissatisfied with my work!!

If its really free verse and my head is spinning with ideas, then it can take about 5-10 minutes. If I go back and change a few words or edit a little, or make it longer, then it can take about 15 minutes. If I have no idea what to write about, it takes almost 30 minutes.

Wtf most people here seem to be able to write in less than an hour. i have never spent less than three hours to write a poem atleast a decent one and they usually take much longer to get the bulk of it finished how i want them to be. often i have spend all night before i had a decent copy in my hands that needs only some minor rework. lol

Lol .. I take atleast 1/2 to an 1 to reword etc once I've got the main parts of the poem.

Normally, it takes me about 5 minutes to write a poem. Forcing a poem out is for noobs ;O I can never write a poem with writer's block, and just trying to make some sort of poetry come out. I've tried, they're all terrible poems.

I just write, i dont care if it is good, i dont spell check i dont check for proper stanza nothing....i just let it come natural, it usualy takes me 5-10 mins either way ^^

I only ever write when i feel like i am inspired to write, or when i have something to write about, or my fingers are begging me to write, or when i am in that sort of mood, so usually not very long since i am in one of those conditions and the clogs in my brain are slaving away! haha

About 5 minutes for me..but when I write it and im done I have to always change it or add on soo a good 15 mins
