Book of Flowers

by Maple Tree   Apr 5, 2016

People have picked me up
from a dusty shelf,
hidden within a ghostly
library, tossed aside
because my pages
were never that exciting.

My preface starts off
"Just a girl from Kansas".

People immediately think
I'm another Dorothy
from the Wizard of Oz-
a knock off to the original;

but my words mean something....

I have lived and overcome
obstacles, found strength
within a darkness of my own
and I breathe each day.

You can read me if you wish
but I'm a mystery and at times
you may think of me as
the witch of the west-

but I'm just a poppy
within a field of sleepy people....

Never judge a book by it's cover. It may be covered with dust but filled with beautiful pages. Beautiful written. Take care

    Hello Andrea,

I like the simile of the dusty book - it lends itself to the theme of not being noticed. A book bypassed, of no interest. Then at the end the poppy and book come together in a nice twist. It's not the book that's dusty, but the 'sleepy people ' acting like everyone else and not noticing the beauty under their noses, like a book of flowers.

    Andrea, an excellent write.

    Take care,

    Michael
