Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress)

Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress) (the Hollies)

In my dreams I see Her pirouetting:
She’s like a tall drink of sparkling liquor
and thirst-quenching as a tart Tom Collins;
She wears an iconic little black dress
as though it were invented just for Her.

She won’t bother to waste time with losers
but will dance with just about anyone,
sometimes even me, not by accident,
at least two times each night I get my turn
and the hand squeeze lets me keep hope alive.

Dancing transports Her high above the floor
to a place where you find sunlit comets -
totally out of reach of mere mortals;
Her partner always feels alone with Her
in company of heavenly bodies.

God help the guy who takes Her serious,
'cause She will rip his heart out through his ribs,
scorn the dumbfounded look upon his face,
then pivot Her high heels across the floor,
met gladly by the next fool on Her card.

She hangs out at the club - Belle Oeuvre D'art
in east end by the old farmers market;
but no one knows for sure where She calls home,
not one can keep up with Her when She leaves
alone in Her LaFerrari Spider.

But when She shows up the place comes alive;
men who want Her jostle for the next dance;
women who want to be Her send men out
taking them back for consolation love;
but when they climb into bed eyes are closed
for each imagines the other is Her.

When She gets older the queue will be gone
since crowds do not love memories of dreams,
so younger moves will be more alluring;
I will still be here waiting unattached
for my long cool woman in Her black dress.

This song was taken and then dropped in That 70s Song Contest. I like it too much to let it languish, so I did one myself. However, I felt it unfair to enter my poem in my own contest, so here it is.

    You should have entered this Larry its just fantastic!! But you know throughout
    this read I could only see that wine/whisky bottle dressed in black. That same seductive
    way when a man drinks this is just like when a woman of the same image walks in and
    captures all those men! Maybe I'm wrong but that is what I saw...you took that seductive
    drink and turned it into a woman!
