Robbed Of life

by Jodie Phillips   Feb 11, 2008

I remember a story
In the news one day
A young lad, happy carefree
His life cruelly snatched away.

I know it happens everyday
But this one story did something to me
I saw this young boy robbed of his life
His murder was caught on CCTV.

I wish I never saw it
Why did I click on the link?
This young lad on my mind
Why did this happen, thats all I could think.

On a night out with friends
Just like any normal lad
He did not know that in a couple of hours
He would leave the club and get stabbed.

A motiveless attack
In the wrong place at the wrong time,
If only someone was nearby
To throw him a life line.

Just standing waiting for a lift
Him and one other friend,
The three thugs are seen laughing and chatting
Then one throws a punch, leaving them unable to defend.

His friend took that blow
So fierce it broke his jaw
But there ordeal not over
Watching on I see there's more.

Whilst his friend is being beaten
The other thug sets upon Dan
In the blink of an eye he has been stabbed
You can see the knife in his hand.

He then goes back to the friend
And stabs him over and over again,
Fortunately he survives
But his life will never be the same.

What he had been through was torture
But this was just the start
He is unaware his best friend has been killed
With one fatal blow to the heart.

Not only left with mental and physical scars,
That will probably never mend,
He has to face the rest of his life
Without his best friend.

20 years of age
Thats know age to die
So, god, if he is with you
Can you please give him a reason why?

The bas***d that killed him
Is now serving time,
He should have been hanged
For this pointless hideous crime.

My thoughts go out to Dan's family
I just can't imagine the pain they feel
I wish I could tell them it's just a horrible nightmare
But unfortunately their son's death is real.
