A letter to dear father

This is a letter to you dear father
at times i think with this letter i shouldn't even bother

you never really did seem to care
and when i needed you, you never seemed to be there

when i'd cry at night you'd never dry a tear
times i'd go looking for you, you were no where near

you drove away any guy i ever came close to
all because they didn't suit you

you shot down every idea i had
but i have some news for you dear ole' dad

i'm finally taking a stand for what i believe
i'm telling you here and now i'm taking my leave

i have bright ideas here in my head
some that have gone for a long time unsaid

i have this boy here that i love oh so much
and as i leave dont lay a finger on me, dont touch

for i'm telling you, not asking for you
this is what's happening, this is what im going to do

when you're done being so cross
and have learned what you've lost

i'll still be here as patient with you as i was before
and maybe we'll be able to end this seemingly endless war
