An Inconvenient Life

by Jennifer RIP Lesthat Hayden   Jun 4, 2008

If you have a problem what do you do?
Conquer it and move on.
If it's a baby do you kill it too?
Should you kill your own spawn?

Is it wrong to kill the result of a rape,
or to kill to save your own life?
Is it a solution or just an escape?
Mind and heart struggling with strife.

Their life's an inconvenience. Easy to get rid of,
but to extinguish life, is it right?
To take away its future, its chance to live and love.
When is it better to flee or fight?

All these questions whirling in our minds,
as they force us to choose life or death.
Some choose to ignore, because truth blinds.
Should we take away the baby's breath?

Even when it's not seen, it's still there.
To kill the invisible is a simple task.
Killing the defenseless, is it fair?
Should it be done? The baby is who you should ask.

I have a personal connection with this poem because I was a mistake. My parents had me in college. My dad said abortion and my mom just didn't feel it was right to kill something because it was inconvenient. I've been back and forth on the subject and I try to avoid harsh violent arguments about it. All I can say is I'm very happy she didn't get an abortion.

I too have a personal connection to this. It's quite different. When my mom was pregnant with me, the doctors said I had fluid in the brain, and spinebifida(sp?). Because in the ultra sounds, I had dark spots on my lower back, and neck. TURNS OUT THEY WERE JUST BIRTH MARKS!!! But my parents thought of aborting me several times. I'm glad they didn't! And I'm glad you didn't either!

I am actually pro-choice, but this poem is so heart-felt that it sort of does make me want to change my views on this. The ending was perfect. I really loved this, and I hope this helps people. :)

This poem was amazing. It also I believe helped you to write this poem because as you stated you have a personal connection to this poem. Abortion is a really good topic to write about. It's one of those topics that are highly debated about among people. You did a great job here. I love how you were asking those questions. They made me think! Great write. This poem deserves more than a 5. Keep up the awesome work. I love your writing, you need to continue to write more so I can check your new stuff out. :]
